Slow-mo photo-booth

Having a photo-booth at your wedding is the ‘new black’ but ‘Super Frog Saves Tokyo’ may have just jumped over a jet-ski on shark with their slow motion photo-booth. For their wedding reception, newlyweds  Quang and Ellie  had a special photo booth installed that captures slow-motion videos. Thanks to video-production company  Super Frog Saves Tokyo  and  RED Epic Camera , the video shows the couple and their wedding guests getting their kiss, dance and smile on in the booth — all in spectacular slow-motion.

How Father's Day is like a Wedding Day

Image
Rarely in this busy, crazy life do we mandate a selah, a moment, to pause and honour someone. A moment to pause and listen, to speak, and simply honour someone we love. This is how I see Father’s Day is like a Wedding Day, we stop and say ‘you’re awesome’ to a father, a friend, a parent, and that guy that didn’t know he was lending you his car when you were 16 at around midnight once or twice. Or on a wedding day, we say the same thing to our friends, daughter, son, colleague. I love you Dad, you’re awesome.

Weddings and the 2013 election

Image
The last person you would come to for election advice would be a marriage celebrant, but in my other life I dabble in the news game, and the federal election is on my radar. So here’s how the 2013 federal election will affect weddings into the future: Pass go, collect $200 The Australian Christian Lobby recently quizzed political parties on different issues , including family and marriage. The Liberal National coalition pledged $200 to couples that are being married and  submit their  notice of intent: The Coalition will provide a $200 voucher to all couples when they register their intention to marry , which will be redeemable on an approved marriage education, counselling or parenting skills service. Couples can use this voucher before or after their wedding to choose the service that best suits their needs, be it one which assists in developing communication skills, conflict resolution, financial management, parenting skills, or for counselling services if problems arise in a m...

A hot date in Perth

Image
On a ‘slightly’ warm day in Perth, where the temperature was higher than [insert celebrity here], I married two great friends, Matt and Chrisse in an exclusive garden venue. We were married by Josh in January 2012, and we could not have made a better choice of celebrant to share our day with. Josh was a lot of fun to work with, very relaxed and happy to roll with whatever crazy ideas we had! We wanted a simple, casual, fun affair and Josh helped us make that happen without losing the meaning behind the ceremony. We had a lot of fun working with Josh and would highly recommend him to any couple planning their wedding! Chrissie, Matt and Munchkin

Dean and Paige's wedding at Coolibah Downs

Image
On a cool winter day in the Gold Coast hinterland I brought Paige and Dean together at Coolibah Downs for their wedding day. I was lucky enough to perform their ceremony and also oversee their reception as MC and also DJ. I asked Paige and Dean to put a few words down about me. Josh Withers, Young, fun, celebrant, yes exactly. From the moment I started researching for our wedding I didn’t know where to start with finding the right person to do our ceremony on our special day. I found Josh’s website and Facebook page,  read some of the blogs and testimonials, showed my fiancĂ©, and we both agreed to set up a meeting. From ‘the get go’ Josh was great in letting us know what needed to be done and when, any calls, meetings left us feeling relieved throughout our planning. Our day was busy and rushed but Josh had planned a perfect ceremony, exactly what we were after, putting that special touch to the reading, friends and family enjoyed it also. Another bonus is Josh also MC/...

Wedding speeches reinvented: all on video

Why not do something crazy for your wedding reception and not let anyone hold the microphone? It’s worth telling you right now that not one cent of this idea is mine. I recently recorded a Thing Committee podcast with a friend, Sarah Maree Cameron, you’ve almost certainly heard her on a radio somewhere before and this past week you would’ve seen her and her sister on Channel 9 in the special episode of the Block Sky High: Domestic Blitz In talking about her and Rav’s impending wedding she said that no-one was getting the microphone at their wedding reception when it came to the speeches. But instead, days or weeks beforehand anyone and everyone that wanted to make a speech at the reception would trot down to a friend’s video studio, and sit in front of the camera and speak for as long as they want.   Sarah and Rav’s friend will then tightly edit together the video together into a really nice and entertaining short video that says everything that ...

10 ways you can work the federal election into your September 7 wedding

Image
For me, September 7 2013 is Britt and my first wedding anniversary, and for thousands of others, it’s their wedding day. And a few moments ago Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced that the federal election will be on September 7, 2013. Everyone you speak to will be on different ends of the political spectrum of apathy or passion, and of course different political bias. Here are ten creative ways you can work the federal election into, or out of, your September 7 wedding. 1. Hold your ceremony at a local polling booth and shout the guests a BBQ sausage and a can of coke for the reception. This is a joke. Do not do this. 2. Display tweets about the election results on a projector or LCD screen using the website  visibletweets.com 3. Instead of throwing the bouquet to see who is getting married next, hold a poll at the reception and release the results during the speeches. 4. The bride can walk down the aisle to Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ ’bout a Revolution...
