Dear weddings, it's not 2004 anymore

Image
Pip Doyle is one of my favourite blogging brides, so it gives me great pleasure to share her little ditty about wedding trends that are no longer . A gravelly, primal ‘Noooo, that’s not right, surely!’ finds it’s way out of my mouth whenever someone says something ridiculous like ‘Yeah, 2004, that was ten years ago’. In my mind, ’10 years ago’ was more like 1995. I still ask people what they did for NYE in 1999 and don’t judge them if they were genuinely concerned about Y2K. We all were. I don’t know how neon snuck back into fashion but you heard it here first when I say that, considering 1995 is much further away than I anticipated, the Cher Horowitz spaghetti-strap-singlet-over-T-shirt style is right around the corner. Exciting times ahead. Things move a little slower on Planet Wedding. Or so it seems. Once trends start, like in mainstream fashion, they’re everywhere. But if you think that you’re idea to have a carnival-inspired wedding with a photobooth, popcorn cones and a hot dog...

Team Mellish's Ecostudio Fellini Awesome Wedding

Image
They say it’s best to marry a friend. I’ve already done that in Britt, so on the 2014 Easter weekend I did the next best thing and married someone I used to do a radio show with, and someone I called a friend, and everyone else called her Viv! Viv and Bart made the trek from Canberra to come back to the Gold Coast to be with their friends and family, and me I’m sure, and celebrated in absolute style at Ecostudio Fellini. Paul Bamford’s photos are below, and withot question, these are some of the coolest pics I’ve seen in a while, nice work Bam! Thanks so much for being a brilliant celebrant. We couldn’t have asked for a better ceremony. We were absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out and are very much loving our new title of ‘Team Mellish’ which we are embracing more and more every day! The vows you suggested were great and we loved the light hearted nature of how things ran on the day. A lot of our friends said it wa...

Lisa and George's Lightspace Fortitude Valley Wedding

My favourite weddings, and there’s many of them, are the weddings where the couple are actively engaged in the experience. Simply put, they care about what’s happening on the day and they have found, and continue to find real meaning in marriage George and Lisa are one of these couples. As far as a testimonial goes I can say this – Thank you for giving us the freedom to be us, thank you for encouraging us to take risks and do what we wanted to do and not what the book tells us to do. Our guests keep telling us that they have never been to a wedding like it and probably never will again, thats just the truth of the matter really because the cookie cutter is rampant!! But with you out there in the mix at least there will always be couples pushing the boundaries and having loads of fun when they tie the knot. You’re a superstar Josh, thank you.
