How to be an awesome wedding ceremony guest

Attending a wedding ceremony as a guest soon? I get to see the best and worst of wedding guests every day at “work” so I wanted to share a few tips on how you can be the best guest in he universe! 1. Arrival time Don’t be too early, wedding vendors setting up furniture, decorations, music gear etc allow for guests to arrive 30 to sometimes 60 minutes early. The perfect guests arrives 15 minutes before the ceremony starts, in my humble opinion. Why? Vendors and suppliers are setting up, and as much as they’re lovely and talkative people, they’re super busy and probably don’t have the time to give you lens-buying advice 🙂 But don’t be late. For crying out loud don’t be the guy or girl walking in behind the bride. 2. Seating and standing If there is more than 20-30 seats then the couple have rented seats for everyone, including you, so sit. They’ve just paid $5-$10 for you to sit, so sit! If there’s only a handful, 4-20 seats, th...

Marriage Monday: Communication

Today’s Marriage Monday blog post is a short and simple challenge. That’s coming up in a few sentences. First, a reasoning: lack of communication is the number one cause of relationship, and marriage, failure. Whether it’s forgetting to tell your partner something, or hiding something from them, or neglecting to let them know about that appointment or forgetting that you planned dinner with friends. It’s the root cause of almost every single breakdown. When I worked in radio I would give advice to young bands that wanted to be successful: do your first “thing”, whether it’s your first concert, first YouTube, your first album or your first single. Because once you’ve done it once you can do it twice, then you can do it a third time and all of a sudden you’ve done it 100 times. So today’s challenge is to communicate with your partner. Tell them that thing that you had been meaning to tell them. Or let them know how you feel about...

So Josh, what would you say ya do here?

Writing your own bio for Facebook or Twitter is the hardest thing to do in the world. Well, maybe the second hardest if the hardest thing is convincing Britt to let me install this new fancy app that I just found onto her iPhone. She didn’t even want Instagram when it first came out! (Love you honey!) Back to writing your own bio, it’s hard. Trying to encapsulate what it is that “ ya do here ” when you’re the one doing what you do is kind of weird. So this email that Lauren and Dre sent me pretty much made my day, and on top of that, to answer “ The Bobs “, this is exactly what Britt and I “do here”. Congratulations on becoming such a success and really taking the industry by the horns. From what I can see, you’re really leading the way and nurturing a historical shift in the way we view, live and remember weddings. That’s a pretty bold move on your part and I commend you for having such a realistic and practic...

Anthony and Sally's Happy Valley Retreat retreat

Image
This blog post, the people in it, their story, this is why I do what I do. Two kids in love, no real inhibitions or worries about wedding tradition, just simply celebrating love and commitment. Ant and Sally’s wedding was such a fun an authentic affair. Between flower boys, a brewery, the bush and the imminent threat of a snake that was sighted just before the wedding, this was an affair I simply enjoyed and loved! My husband and I recently had the pleasure of exchanging our vows in the presence of the one-of-a-kind celebrant Josh Withers. Josh did everything for us; he provided ideas, equipment, support, humour, and atmosphere. Actually, to be honest, they weren’t even our vows – at the last minute he provided those as well! We probably aren’t the traditional couple, and I’m guessing that is exactly what Josh caters for. I didn’t want an overly sappy ceremony, something short, sweet, and a touch of humour to keep everyone interested (because most are there for the booz...

Marriage Monday: does love have anything to do with it?

Marriage, by definition, is a union between two people. It’s got nothing to do with love, on a technical note. This isn’t going to be a long blog post, but I pose a question you might want to ask: what does love have to do with it. If the definition of the very thing you’re entering into doesn’t mention love, why is love so important. I’m not saying it isn’t important. Love is. But it’s adjunct to the core purpose: union. I’d love to hear your response on this one, I think the more we talk about it the deeper our understanding of this crazy thing called marriage will get.

Uber at your wedding

Uber is changing the way we’re getting around our city, and already they’re making a massive impact on the way we get to weddings, I caught one in Sydney to a wedding just a few weeks ago. My favourite thing about Uber is that it’s a disruptive technology, I feel like we’re kindred spirits as I disrupt the way normal weddings have been and try to make them fun and enjoyable. I still remember the whole groom’s party being an hour late for a wedding I was the celebrant at in Western Sydney, including me, because we couldn’t get a Taxi to pick us up. The whole Taxi system is out-dated and unreliable. The thing I love about Uber is that you know what you’re getting. It’s the way business should run today. So with a few Uber trips under my belt, and with UberX now launched in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, and a promo code from Uber, I had a few ideas on how you could ride with Uber on your wedding day. Encourage your guests to leave their car...

Meredith and Andy

Image
We gathered at Old Government House in the Brisbane CBD and had a little shindig to celebrate Meredith and Andy’s nuptials! Jess (and Steve) Marks wedding photohraphy snapped some of the awesome pics below and Meredith and Andy had these lovely words to say about their wedding ceremony! Thank you so much for all of your help and advice over the past few months, and for performing such a great ceremony! When we started looking for a celebrant we decided it was important to find someone who was relaxed and friendly and who would help make our ceremony authentic. The vows were great!! And we really loved getting our bridal party involved, either by doing readings or by signing our certificate. Our guests all believed that you were a friend or relative of ours and I think that goes to show how relaxed you made us on the day… and since you were dealing with two introverts that wouldn’t have been easy!
